Romance
and Love in the Bible, compiled by my beloved, Shane, couple years
ago. Just wanted to share, in celebration of 2 years together. Happy
Anniversary, Dearest!!
(Genesis 2:18-22) 18 The
LORD God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a
helper suitable for him.” But for Adam no suitable helper was found. 21
So the LORD God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he
was sleeping, he took one of the man’s ribs and then closed up the place
with flesh. 22 Then the LORD God made a woman from the rib he had taken
out of the man, and he brought her to the man. The man said, "This is
now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called 'woman, '
for she was taken out of man." For this reason a man will leave his
father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one
flesh.
(Song of Solomon 1:15) How beautiful you are, my darling! Oh, how beautiful! Your eyes are doves.
(Matthew 19:4-6) "Haven't you read," Jesus replied, "that at the beginning the Creator 'mad
e
them male and female,' and said, 'For this reason a man will leave his
father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become
one flesh'? So they are no longer two, but one. Therefore what God has
joined together, let man not separate."
(Proverbs 18:22) For he who finds a wife finds what is good and receives favor from the LORD.
(Ephesians
5:22-28) Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord. For the
husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his
body, of which he is the Savior. 25 Husbands, love your wives, just as
Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her 26 to make her holy,
cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, 27 and to
present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or
any other blemish, but holy and blameless.
(Proverbs 19:14) Houses and wealth are inherited from parents, but a prudent wife is from the LORD.
(Song
of Solomon 4:9-10) You have stolen my heart…my bride; you have stolen
my heart with one glance of your eyes, with one jewel of your necklace.
10 How delightful is your love…my bride! How much more pleasing is your
love than wine, and the fragrance of your perfume more than any spice!
(Proverbs
5:18-19) May your fountain be blessed, and may you rejoice in the wife
of your youth. A loving doe, a graceful deer-- may her breasts satisfy
you always, may you ever be captivated by her love.
(1 Corinthians
7:1-16) The wife's body does not belong to her alone but also to her
husband. In the same way, the husband's body does not belong to him
alone but also to his wife.
(Deuteronomy 24:5) If a man has
recently married, he must not be sent to war or have any other duty laid
on him. For one year he is to be free to stay at home and bring
happiness to the wife he has married.
(Song of Solomon 4:11-12)11
Your lips drop sweetness as the honeycomb, my bride; milk and honey are
under your tongue. The fragrance of your garments is like the fragrance
of Lebanon. 12 You are a garden locked up…my bride; you are a spring
enclosed, a sealed fountain.
(Proverbs 30:18-19) There are three
things that are too amazing for me, four that I do not understand: the
way of an eagle in the sky, the way of a snake on a rock, the way of a
ship on the high seas, and the way of a man with a maiden.
(Proverbs 12:4) A wife of noble character is her husband's crown…
(Proverbs 31:10) A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies.
(Hebrews
13:4-7) Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept
pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually
immoral. Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content
with what you have, because God has said, "Never will I leave you; never
will I forsake you."
(Malachi 2:13-16)13 Another thing you do:
You flood the LORD’s altar with tears. You weep and wail because he no
longer looks with favor on your offerings or accepts them with pleasure
from your hands. 14 You ask, “Why?” It is because the LORD is the
witness between you and the wife of your youth. You have been unfaithful
to her, though she is your partner, the wife of your marriage covenant.
15 Has not the one God made you? You belong to him in body and spirit.
And what does the one God seek? Godly offspring. So be on your guard,
and do not be unfaithful to the wife of your youth. 16 “The man who
hates and divorces his wife,” says the LORD, the God of Israel, “does
violence to the one he should protect,” says the LORD Almighty. So be on
your guard, and do not be unfaithful.
(Song of Solomon 8:6) Set me as a seal upon your heart, As a seal upon your arm; For love is as strong as death…
(1
Corinthians 13:4-7) 4Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy,
it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is
not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of
wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7
It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love
never fails.
(Song of Solomon 8:6) Jealousy is as cruel as the grave; Its flames are flames of fire, A most vehement flame.
(Proverbs
20:6-7) Many a man claims to have unfailing love, but a faithful man
who can find? The righteous man leads a blameless life; blessed are his
children after him.
(1 Corinthians 13:1-3) 1 If I speak in the
tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a
resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. 2 If I have the gift of prophecy
and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith
that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. 3 If I give
all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may
boast,[b] but do not have love, I gain nothing.
(Ephesians
5:28-32) In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their
own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. 29 After all, no one
ever hated their own body, but they feed and care for their body, just
as Christ does the church— 30 for we are members of his body. 31 “For
this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his
wife, and the two will become one flesh.” 32 This is a profound mystery…
(1 Corinthians 13:13) 13 And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.
(Song
of Solomon 8:7)7 Many waters cannot quench love, Nor can the floods
drown it. If a man would give for love All the wealth of his house, It
would be utterly despised.
